For several months, I have had a strong desire to get a portfolio+blog up and running on my personal domain (this one) – however, lack of time and confusion over what CMS to use has caused an unfortunate delay.

For a few days, I experimented with Textpattern, a free and open-source CMS with a low footprint. It had support for most features I required to power a blog, homepage and portfolio, but having to learn an entirely new templating system (TXP uses custom tags instead of PHP) turned me off it.

It was only some time later that I thought of using WordPress and utilizing page templates for a portfolio – looking back, it should have been an obvious first choice given my liking and experience with WordPress.

I have used ViewPort theme as a stop-gap until I design my own theme with separate page templates for the blog, links and portfolio sections – I liked the Coda slider used in this theme a lot and may use it for my portfolio too.
